• Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve - Guerneville, California

      This magnificent grove of coast redwoods preserves an enclave of the forest that once covered this area before logging began. Featured are the Parson Jones Tree at 310 feet tall plus the Colonial Armstrong Tree that is more than 1400 years old. View the ancient trees from your car or take one of several walks through these giants.

      If you go:
      About two miles from Guerneville. Free to park and walk into the reserve; fee to drive. Camping in tents at the adjoining Austin Creek State Recreation Area. Visitor center open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check for interpretive programs or take the self-guided Discovery Trail. Picnic area.
