      Roadside America
It's billed as the 'world's greatest' miniature attraction, and it's hard to know whether greatest is supposed to mean largest or most magnificent. But Roadside America seems to fit the bill on both counts. Founded in 1939, this miniature village housed in a barn-sized building boasts more than 300 scale buildings and other structures, more than 4000 human figures, and as many as 18 functioning trains and trolleys. But the whole experience really defies numbers. It's not just one village but several, encompassing a span of a couple of centuries. Whether you're taking in the whole panorama from an upper observation platform, or examining the amazing detail up close, this exhibit makes you feel like a kid who's just received one enormous set of model toys for Christmas.

      If you go:
Open every day, year-round. Group rates available. Located in the midst of Pennsylvania Dutch country, next door to the Dutch Gift Haus, which is also worth checking out. (This attraction is not to be confused with RoadsideAmerica.com, a site that lists many different offbeat points of interest.)
