Candle paraphernaliaThey put out candles!

The scissors-like implements on the right were used to extinguish the candles' flames. The cone-like extinguishers did the same thing. The implements at the left end of the table were called snuffers. They were used to trim the candle to make it burn better.

These 19th century gizmos are part of the gigantic collection of antique household implements at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
