It's a potbox!

If you know anything about electric cars, you probably recognized this device. "It's a potbox, which is essentially the carburetor on an electric vehicle," says Steve Van Ronk of Sandpoint, Idaho. "It has a calibrated lever that operates a potentiometer read by a Mosfet chopper controller. It gives infinite speed control over DC motors."
