The Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California
RoadTrip America was interviewed today by the Los Angeles Times and the Pasadena Star-News. Marvin, who was sporting a chic new haircut, posed nicely for the photographers. Tomorrow, dozens of volunteers will be on hand to apply seeds, dried flowers, bark, and other non- perishable organic decorations to the floats in the Bookside Pavilion.

Today we learned how T.O.R.R.A., the Tournament of Roses Radio Amateurs, uses Global Positioning Satellite receivers to track the location of parade floats, and we met Gayle & Bob Hackamack, fellow road warriors who've spent a year traveling to Alaska, Mexico, and many points in between.

Today we were interviewed by the staff of Rampage, the student newspaper at Temple City High School. Float builders showed us the inside of their trucks, where they are storing decorating materials like raspberry powder, corn meal, and colorful spices used to cover the surface of the floats. Tonight the float built by students at California State Polytechnic University will arrive after its journey from Pomona, California.

The Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California
Pasadena enjoyed the best weather in North America today: sunny, warm and clear. The Rose Bowl parking lot was a popular testing ground for dozens of Christmas bicycles, in-line skates, and toy cars. Float decorators started trickling in in the afternoon. By tomorrow their numbers will swell into the hundreds. Merry Christmas!

The Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California
The weather turned a little cooler, and rain threatened, but that didn't dampen the spirits of the hundreds of volunteers who turned out to work on the Rose Parade floats housed at Brookside Pavilion.
