Clemens was born in Missouri, but Mark Twain was born in Virgina
City," says Joe Curtis, pictured here with his famous friend.
It was while he was working for the Territorial Enterprise newspaper
that Mr. Clemens first used his signature pen name.
Joe Curtis, who is also Chief of Virginia City's Volunteer Fire
Department, is the proprietor of the Mark
Twain Book Store on C street, housed in the Nevada Bank
building erected in 1862.
