The
Milepost 2004: With Plan-A-Trip Map, edited by
Kris Graef
It has been nearly ten years
since we visited Alaska and in the intervening years,
I have looked forward each year to the release of the
newest The Milepost to get a fresh fix on this
magnificent region. The 56th edition is again edited by
Kris Valencia Graef, and it contains a wealth of insider
tips and suggestions for exploring Alaska, and the Canadian
provinces of the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Alberta,
and British Columbia.
One of the highlights for me each
year is the "Plan-A-Trip" map and regional
guide that is tucked into each copy of The Milepost.
The map's orientation is set so Alaska and the Yukon
are the dominant features of the map, and it serves
to fire my imagination whenever I start thinking about
visiting the Wrangell Mountains or Denali National Park.
The regional guide this year focuses on the Kenai Peninsula
and provides driving mileage charts, fish run information,
and a large map of the Peninsula area. In case you were
wondering, there is also a handy mileage calculator
showing that Homer, Alaska is a mere 5660 miles from...
