WATCH FOR HULA HOOPING PEDESTRIANS
in Death Valley, California, and Goblin Valley, Utah

Melissa Shoreland of Wappingers Falls, New York, discovered the sign on the left while on a road trip through Death Valley, and wondered whether the added accessory was a hula hoop or a small surfboard. When Megan Edwards found the one on the right in Goblin Valley, Utah, it was pretty clear that the added feature was a hula hoop. Closer inspection of the cow revealed that the hoop had been screened onto a transparent decal -- invisible from a distance and in the photo.

A little sleuthing around the Web turned up a variety of pieces of information about hula hoop-enhanced signs around the country, probably best summarized in this article by Thomas Slatin.
