Don Gray has been a professional artist for over
thirty years. His murals are characterized by strong
colors and vivid detail. This mural is the twentieth
painting completed under the auspices of the City
of Murals Project in Twentynine Palms, California.
It was dedicated on January 31, 2004 and recognizes
the marines and sailors from the Marine Corps Combat
Center who participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
This photograph is a detail of the larger work that
also depicts two historic scenes: the toppling of
Saddam Hussein's statue in Baghdad and the rescue
of Shoshana Johnson and other POWs. The artist actually
met the young marine he depicted in the painting above
being carried off the field of battle. (Click

Computer Innovations, which is located at the SW corner
of Verbena Drive and Adobe Road.
