Default 4th of july weekend trip

A buddy and me are driving from Baltimore MD to Gilbert, Minnesota

I was wondering if anybody had any hints on what roads to take. Trying to map out a route that won't add too much more time to the trip & won't have too much traffic.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Leaving June 30th in the mornning or the 29th at night.

Off hand, I'd say take I-70 to Indianapolis, I-74 into Central Illinois. There pick up I-39 and take it north to I-94 in Wisconsin. Exit off I-94 in Eau Claire, taking US 53 to Duluth and onto your destination.

That route should help you avoid Chicago traffic, which is the only major problem spot I can think of on the trip.
