    Default british newcomers

we are three newly graduated students who are looking for a bit of fun in the states. We thought the best way would be to drive; if any of you have any information about buying/renting a car when we get to the US, and general stuff about cost, places to visit and where to stay, then feel free.
    cheers.

I can't give you the full overview of a road trip in the states, since I'm only just about to embark on mine, but I can tell you a couple things:

As far as renting a car, it really helps if you have a credit card and unless the person renting the car is at least 25 it will be very expensive. For exact prices just check out a web site like Avis.com or hertz.com (these are the web sites of national car rental companies).

For International Hostelling members, as of 1999 youth hostels were ranging from $7US a night in Alaska to $24US a night in New York City.

    Default Car Insurance

We are two English girls planning a road trip
from Seattle to Mexico for 3 months starting in July.
We intend to buy a car in/around Seattle.
We need advice on getting car insurance and
how much this is likely to cost. We are both 24 years old.

Default Buying a motorhome in the U.S.

We intend to travel around the U.S. and Canada for 12 months from Jan 2002 in a van conversion motorhome. We have all the books and maps we need about where to go, what to see and do.(lots of info gained from this excellent site). We really need advice on buying and registering a motorhome in the U.S.A. by a couple of tourists. Can it be done or is the process too complicated and expensive? Also, does anyone know what we would have to do when crossing the USA/Canda border ensuring we can get back? We know about KOA camp sites but are there many places to stay over night if you can't find a local camp site? We have family in New York and will use this as a starting place. Thanks in anticipation of any help you can give.
