    Welcome to RTA!

Best route is I-10 all the way. There's nothing else that doesn't involve heights.

    Welcome to RTA!

GLC is absolutely correct. I-10 is the best route. The nice thing about interstates: they are constructed to meet certain standards. Maybe you'll know you're going up in elevation, only because your ears are telling you, or the signs that tell you "Elevation 3000 ft". Or that you're going down because the signs tell you "6% downgrade ahead" and the idiot in front of you is riding his brakes all the way down. (Bad idea.) But there are easy, gentle curves, no sheer drop-offs, guardrails are prevalent, and you're pretty safe as long as you drive safely and defensively!

Yes, you are starting from a valley that is surrounded by mountains. You can't drive out of Southern California without going over those mountains.

You are going to have to deal with mountains and heights no matter which road you take, so you might as well just take I-10, which is the most direct route and is as safe as any. If this is still not acceptable, I'd look for an alternate means of transportation.

    Default What's the problem ?

Perhaps if you explained your concerns people would understand the question better. As said, you can't avoid mountains but, if for example you have a fear of heights and are thinking of shear drop offs and tight bends, you have nothing to fear on Interstate. If it's a health issue then folk might be able to give you elevation info.

Here is a good description of Interstate 10 through California. It's been about 7 years since I was on it, but I didn't remember any major areas through mountains. San Gorgonio Pass and Chiriaco Pass are the two, and neither of them reaches 2000 ft elevations. (Contrast that with I-8, which gets up to about 4100 ft.) Check out these photos and descriptions.
