  1. Default Dreams coming true

Hi, we too are planning a long awaited and dreamed of road trip in October. We will arrive in Boston from London England on 5th October we have provisionally booked a return flight from San Fransisco on 5th December (although this is flexible). Our original intention was to see just a little of New England in the fall and then make our way down South via Memphis and Nashville to New Orleans. We have family living in Texas (Abilene) so thought we could probably call to say hello and then move on West. Our first question is do we hire a car and stay in motels, or would it be better to do this sort of trip in an RV? Also what sort of weather can we expect, going down South. Sorry if I have joined in the wrong thread here but any of your thoughts would be most welcome. Maryandmark

    Default Lifestyle choice.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

I have moved your post to it's own dedicated planning thread to save complication.

Your question regarding whether to travel by car and motels or an RV is a matter of personal taste, a Lifestyle choice if you like. What I can tell you is that the RV choice will cost much more than a car and Motels by the time you add all the associated costs such as mileage charges, campground fees and high fuel consumption. October can be a lovely month but as you move into November and December it can be a bit wintry in an RV. Whichever you decide on you could face a hefty one way drop off charge on your rental if you plan to drop it off the other side of the country although sometimes RV companies like Cruise America have relocation specials with great rates and no drop off charges, often going back to their refurb centre in Phoenix. Might be worth a look at their site if you go the RV route but of course you will need to match dates and the time you want to take.

If you need any other planning help then just ask in this thread.
