  1. Default First Road Trip! LA to NYC - Southern Route

    Hello RTA!

My friend and I are going to do a road trip from LA to NYC, and we have 2 weeks and a day to do it (Is that enough?). We were originally going to try and do the whole round trip, but have decided we wanted to take our time and just do the lower states for now.

We have rented a Toyota Camry and are each planning on bringing one big piece of luggage, plus a carry on (It's what we can bring onto the plane ridge back). We have some friends in Arizona and Texas that we will be visiting, but other than the MAJOR stuff, we don't know what to see and need your help! I have listed the states and what we plan to see below. We are pretty set in stone on what states we want to visit up to Louisiana, but are completely open on how we get to New York from New Orleans.

    Planned Sights for now:

    Arizona:
    Grand Canyon

    New Mexico:
    Rosswell
    Breaking Bad House

    Texas:
San Antonio (Friends live there, so they are going to tour us around)

    Louisiana:
    New Orleans

    Mississippi:
    NOT SURE!

    Alabama:
    NOT SURE!

    Georgia:
    Atlanta

    Tennessee:
    Nashville

    North Carolina:
    NOT SURE!

    Virginia:
We've both been to Washington DC Already

    Philadelphia:
    Pittsburgh

    New York:
New York City - Plan on spending 3 days there

    Thanks!

    Default History and scenery.

Hi, and Welcome to the Great American Roadtrip Forum.

Your trip is doable in two weeks, but you will not have a great deal of time to spend in any one place, if you plan to hit all the places you list.

As for the States where you are not sure, spend a little time reading up about them. They are all States with a wealth of American History and no end of scenery. You may like to venture off the interstates from time to time, and take the roads which are marked as scenic routes on all maps. These typically also have points of interest along the way, where you can learn something of the land through which you are travelling.

On another note, renting a car for a cross country trip can be very expensive. Have you thought of maybe doing a loop trip in one area, e.g. the west, the then make the next trip a loop in an other part of the country?

    Lifey
