We have 10-12 days start to finish. Is it possible to hit badlands, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Golden Gate Bridge and back? Or is that wishful thinking?

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

Whereas it looks possible on paper, the reality is you are going to spend 10 days and 9-10 hours a day, sat in the RV looking out at the sites passing you by and a lot of that would need to be spent on Interstates. This isn't going to be fun for anyone especially the kids and would run the risk of putting them off road trips which would be a waste ! As a first trip in an RV with a big group where you may need time to adapt to it's driving characteristics, size and living space it could be argued that even the Grand canyon could be a bit much as a turn around point and that a loop to Badlands and Rocky mountain NP [area] would be a good 'shake down' trip. Moab and Arches and Canyonlands could also be considered.

I wouldn't even consider going to California if you have less than 2 full weeks available, especially not in an RV with 4 children, where it's going to be extra important to keep your daily distances down.

Even the Grand Canyon would be pushing the limits. That would be a minimum of 3 hard days driving directly there each way, and you'd probably really want to do at least 4 days each way in your situation so you have some opportunity to get out and explore things along the way.

No matter what you decided, I'd strongly recommend you take your new RV out on a short trip before doing any major roadtrip. Heading out on a trip a few hours away for a weekend will help you get familiar with your new rig while you're still in a familiar environment.

Thanks so much for the great advice Midwest Michael and Southwest Dave. I definetly don't want to push it with kids 4,10,14 and 17. But want to leave some great memories of our great country.
