  1. Default Road trip from Chicago to Newport Rhode Island

We are departing soon and getting a bit nervous. The map seems very easy up to Philadelphia area then it shows
going through New York. I was wondering if anyone ever drove this route and have any suggestions. I have an IPASS do we need
anything else on the toll roads? Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Thank you so much.

    Welcome to RTA!

I-Pass works on all toll roads and bridges in IN, OH, and the northeast.

I would not recommend you go anywhere near Philadelphia. Take the toll roads across IN and OH, then pick up I-80 near Youngstown into PA. Take that to I-81 to Scranton, pick up I-84 into CT. At Meriden, take I-691 to CT-66 to Middletown, then CT-9 to I-95 into RI. Get off on RI-138 at Wyoming and follow that all the way into Newport. Note that 138 multiplexes with US-1 between Bridgetown and North Kingstown.

This keeps you well away from the Philly and NYC traffic hassles, and the most congested stretches of I-95. It will also save you considerable tolls, the PA and NJ Turnpikes are quite expensive.
