  1. Default Help!! I5 or hwy 97??

Hello! I do not have alot of experience driving through mountain areas and will be travelling along with my elderly mother and 2 dogs from San Diego to Seattle in May. Originally, i was going to take the I5 all the way to make good time but i am a little worried about Siskiyou Summit. Can anyone give me advice?? Is hwy 97 twisty, turny with steep hills?

    Welcome to RTA!

If you want to make good time, stick to I-5. Interstate grades are regulated to 6%, truck lanes must be added so that regular vehicles won't have to slow down, and you'll find it easy going. My husband and I have made runs up I-5 several times, usually towing something behind us (so we were part of the trucking lane), but the area between Yreka CA and Grants Pass OR is one of our favorite parts of the I-5 drive. Stop at the rest area in the Valley of the Rogue -- SO pretty!!!!
