  1. Default Using this Forum -- Need Tips

    Hi, Im
new here and having trouble using the site. I'm not a techy sort of person, and have difficulty navigating new web sites. To make matters a bit worse (lol) I'm also using a new device, a surfacepro lap top/tablet thingie. My wonderful sons got it for me for Christmas, and I'm still on a learning curve! Ugg!

I would imagine there are old threads with help? Ican't seem to locate them nor can I figure out how to post here? The biggest problem I'm having is trying to sort out the trip map. It keeps shrinking down to a small size, and I can't zoom to correct it? I was wanting to view attractions, remove and add for my road trip starting next week. So far, I've done nothing more than add on the first leg, and don't know how to procede?

    Any/all help is appreciated, Thanks!

    Default Help for you

Welcome to the Trip Advice forum!

Tips for posting on the forums can be found in this thread.

With respect to using the RTA Custom Mapping program -- here is a tutorial for creating custom maps

I am not sure I understand the issue with the map shrinking down. It might be an issue with the device -- You should be able to zoom into the map by clicking on any part of the map and zooming in with your fingers,

For some reason it is by default set to only display threads posted in the last 2 weeks - I'm not sure why.

You can change this at the bottom of the subforum by selecting:

    Thread Display Options
Show threads from the... And you can change how far back you'd like to view.

Because that's the way we set up the forum. But you are correct (and thanks for pointing this out to the other new member) you can change this so you can see new threads at a variety of time settings going all the way back to January, 2000 (but that would be rather a long list of threads and posts!

In my opinion, it was a bit confusing at first - I've never seen a forum set up like that. May I ask why it is your preference to have it displayed like that?

If you are looking for info on a particular topic/route you simply use the search function and it will show pages of all relevant threads [no matter how old] rather than going through pages and pages of topics that might be of no use.
