    Default It's All Here

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

The 48 contiguous states are roughly the same size as Australia, around three million square miles. With 'no restrictions', the list of possible 'things in life to see and do' is essentially endless. Basically everything in the over ten thousand comments already posted to this website are open to you and fit your request. So unless you are prepared to offer at least some guidance on what you would like to see when you get here, about all we can do is have you read all the advice we've given everyone else. It's all about the plethora of great things to see and do in the U.S.

Since there was no info as to what you might like----

Maybe doing things you can't do in Oz is a place to start-

Shoot guns (can be rented at shooting ranges in many places)
Casino gambling (not just in Las Vegas but in many of the States)
Driving on the right side of the road. (our standard)
Visit our standard national destinations (Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Niagara Falls, etc)
See buffalo and grizzly bears (Yellowstone)

    Just a few ideas....

Welcome to the Road trop America Forums Brian.

I live in Brisbane and have been over twice and cant wait to go again. I couldnt have done what i have done there without the help of this forum. You have come to the right place. How long are you hoping to go for and what are you hoping to see. When planning our first trip, we had a huge USA map on the wall and marked out different places we would like to go. Would have taken a year. With the advice of the kind helpful people here we cut it in half and then in half again. Had so much advice as to roads to take to see what we wanted to see. People were all so friendly where ever we went. Looking forward to reading what your plans are.

    Cheers. Keith

Default Start with some good maps.

First thing I would like to suggest that you purchase yourself some good quality maps. A large wall map of the US. I like the National Geographil (large size) for all the information it has, and put it up where you will see it daily, so you become familiar with what there is to see, and where it all is in relation to each other.

For more detail to plan your trip I highly recommend that you get a Rand McNally road atlas, available from the RTA store via the link at the bottom of this page. If you order it now you will have it in a couple of weeks. These maps will have much more detail than the wall map, which is really to get you to pick the major attractions/places. In the atlas you will see all the detail of the many routes and roads you can choose to get from one to another.... and all the at5tractions along the way. So much more than you will ever get to see on a little screen.

I suggest that you spend some time reading throug the forums, especially the RoadTrip Field Reports. See where others have been and what has interested them.

What are you hoping to get out of the trip..... what is its purpose? When do you plan to take this trip, and how long do you have? The more you can tell us the better the suggestions/advice you will get.

Guns can be rented at any shooting range in all States of Australia. The thought that there is a total ban on guns is a great misconception.

Casino gambling (not just in Las Vegas but in many of the States)
Casinos are widespread throughout Australia - and gambling machines are present in almost every pub and club.

Driving on the right side of the road. (our standard)
So true, no argument there..... but neither is it a big deal.

Visit our standard national destinations (Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Niagara Falls, etc)
Equivalent to Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef. Definitely not to be missed.

See buffalo and grizzly bears (Yellowstone)
In the sameway you see our wildlife in many of the national parks and special reserves - fabulous.

    Just a few ideas....
And good ideas they are too, just one or two not that factual.
