    How does insurance coverage work if someone sharing driving on road trip has accident?

    Hello and welcome to RTA !

    A lot would depend on the drivers insurance cover and who owns the car. If its a rental then they should be a named driver. I have limited knowledge of this but you will need to offer more details.

    Very generally speaking, the insurance follows the car. If you own the car, and you let someone drive your car, your insurance will be in effect.

    But there are some exceptions, and the specifics can vary from state to state, so as was mentioned, you really should contact your insurance company to find out exactly how your insurance policy will handle that situation.
