Has anyone driven this in early november? Any tips on best route? I will be doing the sightseeing on my way back in the spring with a friend, but for the way out I am looking for the fastest and safest route.
    thank you!

    Default Straight, Alternate, and Reserve

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

If distance and speed are your only criteria for your eastbound trip, then your routing is pretty straightforward. Just take I-90 to Sioux Falls, I-29 down to Kansas City, I-70 to St. Louis, I-64/I-24 to Chattanooga, I-75 to Gainesville. That's a solid five day drive under good conditions. If the weather looks iffy along that route just before your departure, you can consider leaving I-90 at Buffalo WY and taking I-25 down to Denver and picking up I-70 there instead of at Kansas City. But your best bet in the case of winter weather is to have an extra, sixth day in reserve to simply sit out any weather that makes driving hazardous.
