  1. Default Would Love Your Ideas: NORTHERN NJ -->PITTSBURGH-->ANN ARBOR-->CHICAGO-->CLEVELAND

Our combined college road trip (Pittsburgh and Ann Arbor) and vacation (Chicago) is soon to begin. Our game plan is:

    1. Northern NJ to Pittsburgh (for 2 nights)
    2. Pittsburgh to Ann Arbor (for 2 nights)
    3. Ann Arbor to Chicago (for 3 nights)
    4. Chicago to Cleveland (for 1 night)
    5. Cleveland to Northern NJ (0 nights)

Would love recommendations for places to eat (along the line of Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives), things to see, best routes to take, etc.

    Thanks very much!

    Welcome to RTA!

It looks like you've got a good plan started! It's hard to make recommendations of things to see and routes that might work, though, without knowing a little bit about you (other than you like to eat). Around here we don't do "best" anything, because one man's "best" is another man's "yuck", especially when it comes to things to see and routes.

My husband and I found that when we were hungry, we'd get onto TripAdvisor or Urbanspoon, and start hunting up likely places to eat. These two apps would tell us how much we'd expect to spend (so we could avoid places with $$$ or $$$$), what was good about the place and what wasn't so good. We weren't particularly worried about the service aspect, just the food quality. We found some great places via these tools. Chances are, somebody has a smartphone and can download those two apps if they don't already.

Theme parks -- between Toledo and Cleveland is Cedar Point theme park, near Sandusky. Cleveland has the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, too. In Chicago, there is Six Flags Great America. There is also a different sort of "theme park": Brookfield Zoo, a world-class zoo.
