  1. Default One way Road Trip from California to Florida

    Hello,
We are traveling from the Los Angeles area to the Tampa area in May. We have 3 adults and 4 dogs. Does anyone know of nice hotels that are pet friendly?
    Thanks,
    John

    Default Look to the right.

Hello and welcome to RTA !

It's not going to be possible for people to recommend specific hotels as you haven't mentioned where on the road you are planning on stopping, or even how many nights you will be travelling, and even the same chain of Hotel can have different standards. If you look at the Roadtrip Travel link to the right of each page you can search for Hotels, find reviews and use the tools to select 'Pet friendly' options only. It looks as though you will need 2 rooms to house 4 dogs in most cases and some only allow 1 pet per room, so you should check that out and personally I would call the hotel in advance.

Hope that helps get you started.

    Default Prepare Yourselves

Even the most pet-friendly motels are likely to have limits on the number of dogs permitted in a room. So it will be best to get in a mindset where you expect to take two rooms each night and split the dogs (and people) between them. This would also give you the chance for each adult to have a night with a room to themselves. Chains which advertise pet-friendly policies include Motel 6, Clarion, Comfort Ins, EconoLodge, Holiday Inns, Marriott, Red Roof Inns Rodeway Inns and others, BUT the policy of the specific location will always take precedence, so it is imperative that you map out where you plan to stay each night and see what's available, pre-booking if you want to be sure.

Thank you Southwest Dave and AZ Buck. This is great info and will have to plan accordingly. We tried to rent a RV but no one will rent one way this time of year.

    Default Surprised by that.

An RV could still work out to be the more expensive option, but could be more convenient given the circumstance. I'm surprised that Cruise America and other big rental companies would not offer a one way trip, although there is usually a hefty fee to go with this option. Have you contacted Cruise America direct ?

Yes. We tried them all. Spring is a very busy time and they wont allow one way trips which is just crazy. We tried all avenues but no luck so that is why we will have to load up the SUV. This would not have been a problem if it was winter.
