    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

Roadtrips aren't about generic "bests," they are about finding what works best for you. There's more than a dozen different National Parks that could potentially be worked into a loop trip between Sacramento and the Grand Canyon.

The problem is we don't know anything about what you are looking for. At the very least, we need to know how long you plan to be on the road - as there's not much use recommending a dozen different places if all you have is a long weekend. It would also be good to know where you've been before, what you've liked, and what other things you've already come up with for potential stops.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

There is no single 'best' route as that will depend on many things, not least the National parks that appeal to you the most. We would at least need to know how long you have for the trip and whether or not, you are returning to Sacramento or somewhere else.

The more info you give us to work with the more help we can be.

    Welcome to RTA!

I assume this is a round trip? How many days do you have in total and how many days do you want to spend at the GC? You would maximize best by taking a different route each direction and making each way multi-day.

sorry for not providing adequate information.

yes it will be a round trip from sacramento.
we would like to do a 10 day trip and can even stretch it to 2 weeks.
we havent been to canyon so want to atleast do 2 days or may be 3 there... and soak in all the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

camping is not our cup of tea.. so we would need to book hotels ahead of time...

we have not been to very many national parks other than yosemite, kids enjoyed the hikes.

Default 9 NP to choose from.

What I would be looking to do is to travel into Southern Utah where you have a great collection of National parks, Zion, Bryce canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches and Canyonlands. How many different places you visit will depend on the pace that you prefer to travel at, but with up to 2 weeks you can certainly have an amazing trip. You also have the choice of visiting the South or North rim of the Grand canyon NP, the North rim being quieter and nearer to the other attractions mentioned and the South rim having more amenities and viewpoints, both have extraordinary views of the canyon.

You could get to the canyon in a couple of days, or you could take longer and drive through Yosemite again and across Death Valley or you could visit Sequoia NP on the way to the South rim, or drive south of Lake Tahoe and down 395 and across Death valley. Once you arrive at either rim you could then drive through Monument valley to Moab [Arches and Canyonlands] and then to Capitol Reef and Bryce canyon on UT scenic 12 to Bryce canyon and to Zion. From Zion you have a couple of days drive to get home, where you could drive across Death valley [if you didn't on the way there] or take US6 towards Tonopah, possibly via the ET Highway.

That would be a good place to start your planning to "maximise" the number of National parks you visit, but you also have to consider that if you prefer to stay longer in one place then you might need to cut back, in that case Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef are further out of the way from making a smaller loop. Then you can look at Antelope canyon and Lake Powell, Horseshoe bend etc around Page AZ.

Have a look at a map and do a little research and when you have some more answers we can help to piece your trip together.
