Default Couple Rescued from Beartooth Hwy

Timely reminder to travellers not to underestimate the winter conditions in the USA.

Surprised the rescue came down to a local rather than the authorities making a proper search.

Anyway thankfully it all ended well.

I only have one question - what on earth were these people thinking taking a closed road?

Seriously, that was my thought too. While it's a reminder about the weather, it's a much better reminder to use common sense and don't drive down a closed road!

If you read some of the other stories, once again... a case of someone blindly following their GPS and not paying attention, as they claim they never saw the road closed signs.

I just did some detailed reading - apparently they got stuck only 1/2 mile before reaching the closure gate at Long Lake. I might believe they missed the signs if they weren't paying attention. It wasn't very good headwork continuing into drifted snow on a mountain road that's still climbing......

If they were using a cellphone as a GPS, hindsight shows it would have been an awfully good idea to also use it to get road conditions.

Maybe a case for the closure gates being moved further west.

It is hard to understand how two adults failed to recognise the dangers of trying to cross the Beartooth Hwy in a car in the evening and at the end of October.

Maybe the internet world is distracting us from the reality of the world.

Just hope this story draws attention to more drivers to the hazards of wintery weather driving especially in remote areas.
