    Default Some pointers.

    Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

    There are thousands of things to choose from for a trip of this size and you haven't told us anything of your interests. You can get lots of ideas just searching the forums and checking out the RTA planning pages in the tool bars above. The RTA Map centre has many attractions listed and you can create your own routes to get between them.

    The weather is unpredictable at best and getting to Yellowstone in the ealry part of your trip is advisable as winter can come early to these parts.

    Some attractions that come to mind;
    Chicago to Rushmore, > Badlands NP, Custer state Park, Wind Cave NP.
    Rushmore to Yellowstone > Devils Tower, Bighorn Canyon, Grand Tetons.
    Yellowstone to SF > Salt Lake City, Reno, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite NP.
    SF to LV > Pacific coast Highway, LA, Death Valley.
    LV > Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam, Grand canyon, Monument valley. You could also consider going into Southern Utah to visit Zion NP, Bryce canyon and back into AZ via Page and Lake Powell, Antelope canyon etc.
    I will leave Texas and Louisiana as I have little knowledge of these States.

    On a 3 month trip it is impossible to say exactly what the weather will be other than to say you'll probably see a little of everything. That's especially true when you're leaving in September and will pushing into December by the time your trip is done. At the start of the trip, you will find summer like conditions, and by the time you are done, winter will be setting in.

    The biggest thing you'll have to keep in mind is what areas close for the winter. Yellowstone, for example, is shutting down in October, and most of the park is closed off to car traffic by November. Other mountain areas, like Tioga Pass through Yosemite close when the snow starts flying, which can be as early as mid-october.
