  1. Default 3 week trip to the south

Hoping someone can help. Planning on visiting in July, so far only booked flights to Atlanta. Want to visit Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans and amazing places in between.

    Any suggestions on a route?

We could certainly give you the roads to take to get you between those cities, but I'm guessing you'd want more out of this trip? What kinds of "amazing places" would interested you?

If I were you, I'd start with some of the information you got when you were looking for help about a similar trip a couple years ago.

  3. Default Help with itinerary for road trip to East Texas/ozarks/Tennessee/deep south

Would appreciate any comments/suggestions on the following please -

Arrive Houston late afternoon and drive to Lake Charles (1st night)

Day two drive to New Orleans and stay 3 nights

Then drive to Jackson, Mississippi for 1 night

Next day drive to Birmingham, Alabama for 2 nights

Next day drive to Nashville for 3 nights

Next day drive to Memphis for 3 nights

Next day drive to Clarksdale for 1 night

Next day drive to somewhere halfway between Clarksdale and Fayetteville for 1 night, any suggestions?

Next day drive to Fayetteville for 2 nights

Next day drive to somewhere between Fayetteville and Houston and stay 2 nights, any suggestions? Or drive stopover for 1 night, drive bit more and stop again for 1 night??

    Last two nights in Houston

What do you think? Any places better than I have suggested? Cheers

I can't find fault with any of your choices of places to visit, particularly since you chose them to meet your interests and requirements. What I will suggest is a few other locations and venues for your consideration that I have enjoyed in that general area. Poke around the Creole Nature Trail on your way to Lake Charles. Pay a visit to the old state house in Baton Rouge. Stop in Natchez on your way north from New Orleans and then use the Natchez Trace Parkway up to Jackson. While in Jackson, visit the Mississippi Petrified Forest outside Flora. Tour President Polk's home in Columbia TN. Walk Shiloh Battlefield on the drive to Memphis, and stroll around Mud Island while in Memphis.

After that, I'm not sure where you're going since I don't know which Fayetteville you mean. Certainly not the one in North Carolina, but there are Fayettevilles in both Arkansas and Texas, neither of which falls on what would be an intuitively obvious extension of your route so far.

From Lake Charles to NOLA, exit town called Iowa, LA. (just about 15 miles) and head south (right turn) about a mile and stop at this place called "Rabideaux's Sausage Kitchen" and have the boudin. Not a shameless plug but rather a testament to the fact that their boudin will, in fact, change your life. Awesome road food if you allow pork into your diet.

In NOLA, if your budget will allow, stay at the The Le Pavillon Hotel. They have peanut butter and jelly sammich fixings with hot cocoa that they roll out in the evening, pool on the roof. That hotel has the true flavor of "Nawlins" and it is pretty close to the French Quarter.
