  1. Default Roadtrip advice greatly appreciated!!

Me and a friend are thinking of doing an american roadtrip this summer, but can't decide routes. We were thinking either:

We would really appreciate any advice. We're thinking around 15 days, are we being too adventurous with these routes? And if anyone has any suggestions as to places on the way or other places we should visit we're all ears!

    Default Your choice.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

Either route would work just fine and give you lots of opportunities for sight seeing, and neither is close to being over ambitous with 15 days to enjoy yourselves. Your first job is to make a decision which isn't always easy, but it's something you have to do for yourself. The good news is that there is always another day for the other !

With your first option I would at the very least consider dropping down into Utah and visiting Arches and Canyonlands NP's near Moab and then visit the Colorado National Monument near Grand junction before detouring into Rocky mountain NP on the way to Denver.

With your second option you could head to the South rim of Grand canyon NP via Hoover Dam and head up through Page AZ with possible stops at Monument valley, Bryce canyon and Zion NP's as you head towards SLC.

There are many other options on either route to consider so I would continue with your research and once you have made a choice we can help you with the fine tuning of your plan and perhaps make alternative suggestions.

    Default The planning.

One of the first things you might like to do is sit down with your friend and write down just what you want to get out of this trip, what is the purpose.... besides just doing an American roadtrip. That should help you to focus on which places to visit, which routes to take..

The other thing you might like to do is some costing, especially with air fares and car rental. You may well find it is cheaper to fly in and out of the same city and to drop off a car at the same location where it was rented. In other words, do a round trip.

Either of your routes is suitable for this. In fact by combining your must sees of both trips into a loop, you may well find that you could do most of what you want to do, in one trip.

Thanks guys, we have finally settled on the following route:

Seattle- Glacier NP- Yellowstone- Salt Lake City- Denver- Vegas (possibly via Bryce Canyon).

Any suggestions on things to see along the way and any unmissables would be fab!!
