  1. Default Drive Los Angeles round trip via Las Vegas and Denver

I am from Australia and will be holidaying in the States start 12/08/12. We arrive in LA and have 3 days before we head to Las Vegas for 2 nights, we have booked a chopper flight to see the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas.
I would like to travel to Denver from Las Vegas and would like to know what some of the sights are on the way to Denver and where would be a good place for an overenight stop if required.
We would then like to spend a couple of nights in Denver befoer heading back to Los Angeles.
Does this area have road closures due to snow?

Default Be aware what it is that you are getting.

Hi, and Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum.

Is your helicopter flight from LV actually going over the GC National Park? You need to be aware that flights out of LV rarely go over the Grand Canyon NP. The majority go over the west rim, which is Indian land, and which is not the spectacular scenery with which you will be familiar from pictures and film. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just that you need to know what you are getting. There are flights out of Tusayan, which go over the National Park.

Is there any special reason why you would not drive to the Grand Canyon, since it will basically be on your way to Denver. A most popular route which goes via the GC, Monument Valley, Arches, Moab, and much, much more, is at your fingertips.

If you check out the forums, you will find many threads which feature the highlights and sights between LA and Denver, including the GC. It is a relatively popular trip, with many options for route. You could always take a different route on the way back, and take in Zion, Bryce Canyon and maybe Death Valley.

How long do you have for the complete trip?

    Default Time.

Travelling in the Rockies during December could well have an impact on your journey. The Interstates are a priority to keep clear and traffic moving but even then you may have to pull off the road for a few hours [or night] to let the road crews set about clearing up. Keep an eye on weather forecasts and road conditions as you travel.

I would like to travel to Denver from Las Vegas and would like to know what some of the sights are on the way to Denver and where would be a good place for an overenight stop if required.
This sounds as though you are contemplating doing the trip in one day, possibly 2 ? It's to far for a single day and even with 2 days you will be very limited with sight seeing, and even less if the weather plays a part, that would be a real shame because there are many National parks and other attractions to enjoy.

As Lifey mentioned above, taking a different route out and back would be a change of scenery and your choices of attractions would increase. If you only have 5 or 6 days to spare from Vegas to LA [including your 2 nights in Denver] then I would reconsider adding that many miles to your trip. Most of the attractions mentioned above could be seen in a much smaller loop and would lessen your chances of seeing weather disruption and give you more time out of the car to enjoy the area.
