  1. Default Newbie trip - Indy to Florida. Please advice!

    Hi all,

We are a bunch of international students, planning on a road trip from Indiana to Miami, FL during the last week of December. This would be our first driving experience in the US and would like to get some pointers from ya'll regarding:
    1. The best route
    2. Good places to stop over/check out en-route
    3. Any thing that we need to be aware of or be wary of?

Default What Did You Have in Mind?

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

The thing is, that the people who answer such questions on this site are committed to the idea that each and every RoadTrip is unique, a reflection of the dreams and goals of the pe0ople who are taking it, and not a one-size-fits-all canned itinerary. So the first and best piece of advice we can give you is to talk amongst yourselves and decide what your goals are, what you'd like to see, and probably most importantly, to make sure that you're all on the same page before you get out on the road. Once you have an idea of what you want, we'll be happy to suggest venues that will fit your desires, be they for shore, mountains, historic sites, nightlife, scenic wonders, whatever. But the first step is up to you.

Also, keep in mind everyone's personality's and also that in general, you can't wait to get to your destination. My daughters and I drove out to California (from Arkansas) last summer. We thought we were going to want to stop at all these places and do these things but the truth was, on the way out there, we just wanted to get THERE. On the way home, stopping and doing and seeing was much more interesting as we were not in any great hurry to get home.

    Default Thank you.

Hi Sue, and Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum.

Thanks for jumping in with the advice gained from your experience with your daughters. I am sure it will be appreciated by the OP. It could be all the more apt, considering that this trip is planned with buddies - hence, strangers - which can be much more challenging than family.

Feel free to jump in any time you feel your experience can help a poster.
