  1. Default 14 days San Fran to Los Angeles via Vegas.

I am looking at something very similar to do at the end of March 2013. 14 days starting in San Fran to Los Angeles via Vegas.

Have no idea of route at the moment but would welcome any advice as to which Nat parks would be good along the way and where is the best place to stay in them

    Current plan is:

    San Fran - 4 days
    Travel Day
    Nat Park 3 days
    Travel Day
    Vegas 3 days
    Travel Day
    Los Angeles 4 days

    Default How many days?

Hi Dean, and Welcome to The Great American RoadTrip Forum.

You mention a trip of 14 days, but your current plan lists 17 days.

Taking your current plan, I would look at a trip which would look something like... San Francisco, PCH, (Monterey, Big Sur, Cambria), Yosemity NP, Sequoia NP, Death Valley NP, LV, Grand Canyon NP, LA. It could mean possibly spending less time in the cities in favour of the NPs, which in that part of the country are nothing short of spectacular.

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

Lifey has given you a good idea of the popular options and national parks you could work with.

But I think the bigger thing in your planning is that you need to figure out where you want to go/which of those parks and places you want to see, before you have a timeline of how you visit them.

For example, if you decide you want to visit the Grand Canyon, that's a stop you'd want to make between Vegas and Los Angeles, and wouldn't fit with the plan you listed to do all of your national parks visits between SF and Vegas. Also, some places don't need a full day set aside only for travel. For example, you can get from SF to Yosemite in a half a day.

Of course, Lifey is also correct in saying you might want to spend less time in cities to have time to explore more of these natural wonders. That's why I'd figure out which stops are your priorities, and then you can focus on the details of your timeline.
