  1. Default Family road trip to yellowsotne, grand canyon etc....

We will be travelling with three children ages 7-14. We will arrive in Denver on Aug. 2. We plan to visit the Rocky Mountains National Park then drive from there to the Tetons and Yellowstone; then onto sights in Utah, then onto Phoeniz with a stop at the Grand Canyon. We will fly out from Phoenix on Aug. 12. Any tips, recommended things to see, places to stop and stay, places to eat, and suggested routes would be greatly appreciated!! We are coming from the east coast and have never travelled to this part of the country. Thanks!!!

    Default One Big Suggestion

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

'Open Jaw' RoadTrips, where you fly into one city and fly home from another are inherently more expensive than loop trips where you buy a simple roundtrip flight to one city, rent a car with no one-way drop-off fee, and simply do a loop where you return to the same city you flew into. Another advantage to such loop trips is that you can choose your gateway city from any on your loop that offer the best combination of airfare/car rental. In your case that would be Denver or Salt Lake City, most likely, but Las Vegas is not too far off the loop. Phoenix is, however, and by dropping Phoenix, going to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon rather than the South Rim, and closing the loop back to Denver, you only add a few hundred miles (less than a tank of gas) to the trip while possibly saving several hundred dollars in car drop-off fees as well as 5 times whatever the price differential between a simple round-trip flight to Denver should cost and a flight into Denver but out of Phoenix. In addiction, you could easily add Monument Valley, Four Corners, Mesa Verde and Great Sand Dunes National Park to your itinerary.

You are planning a lot in only 10 days. Hope you don't mind some very long daydrives.
1: Denver get to Estes Park
    2: RMNP
3: RMNP to Grand Teton NP (there's your first very long daydrive)
    4,5,6: RMNP and Yell
    7. Yellowstone to Bryce (Another looooong day)
    8. Bryce to Zion
    9. Zion to Grand Canyon NP
    10. To Phoenix via Sedona.
Make your reservations ahead of time.
