  1. Default Chiccago to Niagara Falls

    Hi,

We are planning a trip from Chicago to Niagara Falls then onto New York City. Any Suggestions on the following ideas would be great.
    1) Chicago to Niagara via Wisconsin, Canada
    2) Chicago to Niagara via Detroit, Canada

    Thanks

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

Wisconsin is essentially going in the wrong direction. That's not necessarily a problem, but obviously it requires significantly more time.

So how much time do you have for this trip, and perhaps even more importantly, what kinds of suggestions are you looking for? Without having some idea of what you want to do, we're kind of shooting into the dark.

Another question - do you have passports?

    Hi

Any suggestions are welcome. Basically we have 10 days between Chicago and New York city. Hoping to have 1/2 days of driving (4 - 5hrs) then a day and a half off in places

Wanting to see small towns and great Scenery

In that case I would choose the option through WI. It is a great drive and a little research will show you just how much there is to see and explore along the way. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with the route through Detroit, both the route through Sarnia and the route through Windsor.

If you are looking for scenic drives to NYC as well, I would highly recommend US20. Though time there may be against you.

How about if we go direct from Chicago to Niagara Falls then spend the rest of our time from Niagara to New York City. What would you suggest?

Default Time to get out a map.

I'd suggest you go the way which appeals to you most.

If you are wishing to focus on scenic routes and small towns, it is probably time to get out a good map, such as AAA or Rand McNally. All these have the scenic routes marked on them. They also have the small towns, historical places, Parks and Forests, etc.

There are many options from Niagara to NYC, including taking scenic routes through some of northern PA.
