Default Indiana dad with 3 boys looking for a roadtrip

Help! Taking my 3 sons ()ages 16, 16, 11) on a roadtrip the week just after July 4th. Not a clue where to take them but I want to keep them active and show them some of the midwest, east, south, or anywhere for that matter. I would like to visit 4-5 places and I have a week to fit this in. Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

The VA/DC area would give you a nice variety without too much driving. I think that every child and teenager would benefit from seeing DC. Your sons are probably learning some things about government in school, and it can be a lot more interesting if they've seen some of the places firsthand. Also, most males I know really enjoy the Natural History and Air and Space Museums. Besides DC, you could visit various historical places in VA (Revolutionary War and Civil War) if you'd enjoy that, go to the beach, and visit the Blue Ridge Mountains.
