I've driven I-5 between LA and parts north (e.g. Oregon and BC) many times before, but I'm going to break up the drive differently this time. Usually we stay in Sacramento the first night, visit the state railroad museum in the morning, and move on our merry way.
This time I want to drive further on the first day and stay somewhere between Red Bluff and Weed. I've read some hotel sites for ratings on under-$100-per-night-loding and haven't come up with anything of note. Does anyone have suggestions on some place to stay for a night in Red Bluff, Redding, Dunsmuir, Mt. Shasta, Weed, or thereabouts? Yreka won't cound because we'll be taking US 97 out of Weed.
Are there any quick places to stop for an interesting historical or scenic place?
On the way back we plan to stop by Mt. Lassen National Park, but the way up will be fairly straightforward with maybe a stop at Crater Lake.
