From the Jersey Shore to Vegas - May 2012

Aloha all!

My girlfriend's company has decided to relocate her to their Las Vegas office. I am happily going along ... But I got assigned the driving and planning of our move. All our gear is being shipped, so it is two adults in a car for 5 - 7 days. She has never been out of the Jersey to DC coastal area and would like to see some kitschy fun Americana. Any advice?

(I was thinking about picking up Route 66 near St. Louis.)

Hi Aaron, and Welcome to the The Great American RoadTrip Forum.

Sorry to disappoint you, but route 66 was decommisioned decades ago. There are some remnants left, the most popular of these is just outside of Vegas. A forum search will no doubt locate several recent discussions featuring route 66.

The best thing you could do, if you have not already done so, is get some good maps of the country or States through which you plan to travel, and see what there is along the route. A road atlas, such as a Rand McNally also gives such detail. AAA is a good resource for maps, and if you are not already a member, it might be an idea to become one. You never know when you may need them on such a trip.
