  1. Default New Orleans/Florida/NYC - spring or autumn?

Planning a month-long trip from New Orleans including Florida and Washington and finally New York (or reverse direction). When would be the best time to do this - in the spring before the main holiday season, or in the autumn when the trees in New England will at their most colorful? Any cost (or other) considerations that we should take into account, or are prices similar in both seasons?

Spring would probably be the least expensive, with summer and fall seasons being right behind it in the cost factor -- at least, as far as lodging and fuel are considered. Lodging and gas prices seem to be higher in the summer months (because demand is higher), and fall a little less (but not much due to the "fall colors" traffic). At least, that's what we've experienced!

Restaurant prices are probably similar in all seasons, in the chain restaurants. However, they may be a little less in the spring.

If it were me, though, and I had the time to do New England in the fall -- I'd do it, even if the prices were a little higher. The beauty of the seasons, you know (something we in southern California don't see too much of).
