  1. Default Milwaukee, WI to Phoenix, AZ January 2012.

We are driving from Milwaukee to Phoenix in January, 2012. We will be pulling a camper. Any advise on the best routes, winter camping spots, etc for this drive. Has anyone ever camped in a Walmart parking lot for the night?

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

There's never a one size fits all "Best" route. If you are looking for the fastest, then your best bet would likely be I-43 to Beloit, I-39/I-55 to St. Louis, I-44 to OK City, and I-40 to Arizona. But there are a lot of other factors that could make a different route a better choice for you depending upon what you are looking for.

Overnight parking at Walmart is sometimes- but not always - allowed. You should checked with the stores management to make sure it is ok. Also, make sure you do not appear to be camping, so don't use slide-outs or start grilling in the parking lot. Truck Stops can also be a very good place to stop for the night.
