Default My Circle, Too Big or Too Small ?

Hi all and may I say first what a find this site is, absolutely great.

Just a quick bit of advise please.
    I,m planning a trip with the following route - Dallas-San antonio-Houston-New Orleans-Mobile-Atlanta-Knoxville-Nashville-Memphis-Oklahoma=Dallas.
I will be arriving in Dallas on the 13th of Jan and leaving on the 29th of Jan, Will this be enough time or should I make my circle smaller?
I did route 66 in 18 days (+ sides trips) and this was ample time to see loads.
Many thanks in advance for any input
    Ian.

    Default Comfortably.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

Your circle is certainly achievable in the time you have, quite comfortably as it happens. You could probably drive the route in 5 to 6 days so that will leave you time to explore along the way. I would say it comes down to how much time you want to spend in each place and what you feel comfortable with.

    Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Should have put this in my post, any "unusual sights" along this route? (I've got a list of the usual) and I know its subjective but any "good" places to eat I:E local/area specific foods.

If you go by Sallisaw, OK, in the evening hours, you might enjoy Shad's Catfish Hole, IF it's open at this time of the year. It's about 7 miles south of the freeway, but the food was great. If you aren't a catfish lover, they also do chicken tenders/strips. The main dish is all-you-can-eat, the rest is served family style at the table. It was one of the most reasonably priced dinners on our trip, especially considering it was smorgasbord.

I'm not familiar with these parts but while you are in Memphis it's a fine chance to visit the home of Elvis [Gracelands] and the famous Sun recording studio's where he cut his first record. If that's your 'thing,' you could also head down to Tupelo to visit the 'Kings' birthplace.

Have you checked out the RTA maps? Put your cursor on the 'Members' link in the tool bar above and you will find the Mapping programs where you can develop routes and/or click on the map to find places of interest near to where you are headed.

    Just some quick pointers.

Dallas: Museum at Dealey Plaza – JFK assassination history.

San Antonio: The downtown water way is a fantastic place to spend some walking time.
Fort Sam Houston – Geronimo held there for a while. Alamo.

Houston: Side trip to Space Center Houston – mission control and all that.

New Orleans: Tourist hotspots. Also have a trip along the Mississippi River. Some good Swamp Trips nearby, wild life, crocodiles plus.

    Thanks for all the help

Elvis is a big must, (1 of the main reasons for going).

Houston space center sounds good, and definately some swamp trips.

Really looking forward to it now and only 12 days to go ;)

In New Orleans, there are two places that come to mind:

A place with true Creole cooking...a friend of mine here in San Diego is from there, and would have recommendations but she is out of the country at the moment.

The French Quarter -- and the clubs that play the jazz and blues music.
