Default Planning summer trip from SLC Utah to Mass

Myself, my best friend, and my six year old sonwill be making a trip from SLC Utah to Mass next summer. Last year I moved from NH to Utah, and we made a 12 day road trip of it, with a lot of sight seeing, and def not a direct path. We plan on spending every night at a hotel, would like it to last 2 weeks, and have kid friendly and fun stops. I'm posting to ask for suggestions of stops for our not so set in stone road trip. Any restraunt suggestions or types of food in different locations.
So here is a list of our trip-the places we really want to spend time at are in caps. The other cities are just to show you our route.

    SLC, UT
    LAS VEGAS,NV
    PETRIFIED FOREST, AZ
    Gallup, NM
    Armarillo, TX
    Elk City, OK
    Oklahoma City, OK
    Little Rock, AS
    MEMPHIS, TN
    Jackson, MS
    Baton Rouge, LA
    NEW ORLEANS, LA
    Mobile, AL
    Tallahasse, FL
    Jacksonville, FL
    SAVANNAH, GA
    PARRIS ISLAND, SC
    Charleston
    Myrtle Beach
    Wilmington, NC
    CAMP LEJEUNE, NC
    VA Beach, VA
    here it gets iffy
We want to avoind NJ and NYC, but I pretty much just need advice on whats listed.
We're very excited about New Orleans, so restraunt and hidden gem place suggestions there would be awesome. Thanks!

    Default Stops along the way.

Hi Stephanie, and Welcome to the The Great American RoadTrip Forum.

You seem to have a good handle on what to do and how to go about it. When you are looking at stops along the way, you might like to check out this thread.

As for the last leg of your trip, a nice scenic alternative to I-95 is I-81 and I-88 to the Masspike. For a pleasant overnight stop along the way, check out Jim Thorpe PA. A little off the route, but well worth it. This lovely little hamlet in the mountains is a real gem.

And when looking for places to eat, why not ask the locals. At your accommodation you can often learn of recommended local specialities. But I would ask around wherever.

    Enjoy.

    Lifey
