  1. Default West Coast

Hi Everyone- this is my first post on this site- it's great to have a place to get answers. We are planning a trip for our 20th anniversary next May and we are really considering driving the west coast from Seattle to San Diego. We may shorten it up a bit depending on how much time we have but that's the idea right now.

My question is this- once we get to California we are comfortable with accomodations as we have travelled there before (from San Fran to San Diego). Our question is when we are in Washington State, Oregon and Northern California. We are going to stick to the PCH all the way down. To try and control costs, can anyone suggest what our best bet is for accomodations? Is it B&B's? If we go in May are things busy? Should we book early or can we count on finding places as we move down the coast pretty easily? We are hoping not to spend a fortune each night- what can I expect?

Any suggestions of places that you have stayed that you thought were great.

Pretty loaded question but any help would be great!

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

May could prove to be a great time to make this drive. Temps will still be relatively cool, not to say brisk, but the winter rains will be dying off. The tourists will not yet be out in force. That means not ]only will the roads and beaches be uncrowded, but the tourist accommodations will be chock full of vacancies. In fact, you should still be getting off-season rates at most places along the northern coast. However, B&Bs are typically not money savers. These tend to be boutique type lodgings, and of course the price of breakfast, most typically a full rather than continental breakfast, is included. Your best bet for low price rooms is to do some shopping beforehand and know what the best rates are in a particular area where you may be staying for the night, and which motels, etc. are open at the time of year you'll be passing through.

Default RTA hotel / motel reservations.

Why not spend a little time researching through the hotels / motels accommodation reservations top right on this page. Or go to the green navigation bar above, and click on 'reservations'. There are some great deals to be had there, and you might just find what you are looking for.

    Worth giving it a go.
