  1. Default Leaving in October

We plan to travel from Michigan to San Francisco taking the northern route, but are concerned about snow in the mountains. We will be leaving the beginning of October. Is this early enough to avoid snow? We plan to spend a week in San Francisco then head down the coast and take the southern route home. We plan to stop in Vegas and Monument Valley then head toward Louisiana and Georgia to visit family. We plan to be traveling for about one month. Any suggestions of highlights along the way or any additional advice. This is our first time making such a big trip.

    Welcome to the RTA forum!

It's unlikely, but certainly not impossible, that you'd see a bit of snow in early October. However, if you are planning to stick to the interstates for much of your travel, it really should not be a big deal as they will be the first to be cleared.

I'd second Michael's comments. Generally the best roads to be on, if you have to be out in bad weather, is the Interstates.
