Default Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

You will find a whole lot of ideas just searching the forums and in the tool bars above. The Map centre is a place you can create routes and check out attractions in the area. As you look around the forums you will notice one common theme , there are no one size fit's all "must sees" as that depends entirely on your interests. One persons 'must see' could be another persons idea of misery, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so to speak. Certainly we can help once you have worked the basics out, we can make suggestions and help to 'Fine tune' your trip. How long are you planning in spending in Yellowstone for instance ? What else appeals ?

Creating a nice loop will give you lot's of options, how about Rocky mountain NP? Mt Rushmore and Wind cave NP are a couple of options and a little further afield, Badlands. Heading back south through the Grand Tetons you could pass Flaming gorge Rec area and Dinosaur NM or drop down to Arches NP and Canyonlands in Southern Utah. You have the Colorado NM near to Grand junction and so on.

There are many more options, but with 2 weeks you will have to pick and choose and prioritise your time, so look around and see what appeals and just ask as questions arise.

    Default Have you looked at...

... and considered the North East entrance into Yellowstone, over the spectacular Beartooth Highway and Beartooth Pass?

Devils Tower National Monument can be done when traveling from Custer to Yellowstone. Southwest Dave gave you plenty of other great ideas.

If you are going this summer it might be hard to find lodging in Yellowstone but I'd keep calling and hope to get in on a cancellation.

As far as rafting is concerned, many people seem to do that along the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon. That is located west of Denver along I-70.

Default Rafting WY, UT, and CO

    North West Traveler,

A handful of rafting locales come to mind with little effort on my part:

Right at Jackson, WY a booming business exists rafting the Snake River. I expect there are several outfitters working that water.

Down south of Jackson, at the east end of the Untina Mountains, Flaming Gorge Reservoir is held back by a dam some 400' high, and the Green River is rafted below the dam. It makes for a particularly imposing sight at the put-in. Closest community is Dutch John, UT, around 50 miles south of Green River/Rock Springs, WY.

Near Moab, UT, the Colorado River is rafted on a day-trip basis at Westwood Canyon, upstream of Moab, and by multi-day trips between Moab and Lake Powell.

In the vicinity of Durango, CO, the Animas River is a rafting destination.

Below Buena Vista, CO, the Arkansas River is a rafting destination.

    I hope this helps!

If you are dropping down as far as Dinosaur National Monument there is rafting on the Green River within the monument. We've never done it but it looks like you are in a very scenic area.

We have done the rafting out of Moab, Utah and that was fun and scenic!
