    Default Kitschiest Roadside Attractions?

RTA and Roadside America received a nice mention in Jessica Su's new article on TravelandLeisure.com earlier today. Great photos and nice descriptions as well.

What are your favorite and yet-so-kitchy roadtrip attractions?

Cool article, and good mention of RTA! I enjoyed looking at the photos with that article and one of the sidebar articles as well.

Wall Drug is about the only roadtrip attraction that I would do again, if I passed it. My husband has a favorite casino in New Mexico that he likes to stop at ... but only because they handed a trucker a roll of coins to get them to play. All they needed was to show their CDL!

    Default Prefer not to know.

Yeah!! great article. But somehow, I don't read about these roadside attractions. And even when I read about them on forum, I don't note what or where. I far prefer to be surprised when I stumble upon them. It might mean I miss out on some, but what the heck. No one can see it all.

That said, one which sticks in my mind is in North Pole AK. Not sure what it is called, but it is the santa shop there, which is open all year round. Would one call that Kitchiest? I have no idea, not too sure which are.

Lifey - it's the Santa Claus House in North Pole. It's a fun shop. I'm not sure if it's a roadside attraction, but we sure enjoyed it when we were there years back. Every year, we decorate for Christmas and pull out the 5 or 6 things that we bought there. We bought my MIL some things there too - - and will probably end up getting them back.

With any luck, by the end of October I can add a photo of Paul Bunyon and Babe the Blue Ox in front of Trees of Mystery in Klamath CA (first night out on the upcoming road trip).

Thanks Donna. I am not that good at remembering those details. I tend to remember the experience more than the detail.

Guess no more so than WallDrug. At least it can be seen from the highway. Without all the billboards, no one would know WallDrug is there. Great place though, I loved it. But not sure I'd bother going there again.
