  1. Default CA 101: SF to Brookings, OR

Can anyone help? Mapquest has San Francisco (Cupertino, actually) to Brookings, OR as an 8 hour drive (so av 53 MPH.) But as I look at my atlas and see the little hooks and crooks and number of towns, I gotta think that the 426 miles is going to be a little longer than 8 hours.

    Thanks for any observations.

Yes, it will be longer than 8 hours. Mapquest, Google Maps, etc., don't have to stop at stop signs, go to the bathroom, wait for traffic lights, get something to eat, or stretch their legs. While 426 miles on an interstate may be do-able in 8 hours, it's not likely on a route such as US or CA 101. That would be a long 10 to 12 hour drive.

    Welcome!

You may be hard pressed to complete this trip in one day - you have to start off by getting through San Francisco and across the Golden Gate! That can take forever in morning rush hour. 101 is freeway or near-freeway quality for a significant portion of the route, but it also has some slow congested 2 lane sections.

My software says 7 hours 25 minutes, which is even more unrealistic.
