  1. Default Trip around the Boston area

We will be heading to Boston in the first 2 weeks of Aug. it will be us and 3 kids (8 /6 / 1.5).
Would love to hear suggestions for trips during the week days as over the weekend we plan to come back to boston and spend time woth family.
I heard the area is very beautiful and could easily have us travel for a couple of days out side the city.

    Thanks and happy vactions

Default Some Venues in the Boston Area

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

I just got back from a family gathering in Boston, having spent a week on Cape Ann prior to the event. That's an area northeast of the city that I had not explored before and found to be a great hidden treasure. Among it's top attractions are the picturesque town of Rockport, the working fishing town of Gloucester with its art colony and old homes on Rocky Neck, and nearby historic Salem and the Plum Island National Wildlife Refuge north of the Cape. In Boston itself, you can't do better than the Freedom Trail, including Paul Revere's house, Old North Church, Fanuiel Hall, Old Ironsides, etc., etc. South of town, there's Cape Cod with Provincetown, Cape Cod National Seashore, and the offshore islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. The ferry rides alone are worth the trip. West of town history reigns with Lexington and Concord, the living history site of Old Sturbridge Village, and the Mohawk Trail. A little farther afield, but still within a day trip of Boston, there's Strawbery Banke and the Albacore (a research submarine) in Portsmouth, NH; the 'cottages' of the Astors and Vanderbilts in Newport, RI; and the recreated colonial seaport at Mystic, CT.
