  1. Default Chicago to Nashville, Road Construction?

Hi, this is my first post here. I'm planning a road trip to Nashville next weekend (July 15 - 17) and was hoping to find out ahead of time of any major road construction on Interstate 65 in Indiana, Kentucky or Tennessee.

This is a website that I wish was around when I was younger and did A LOT of driving around the country!

    Thanks in advance!

    Default Welcome!

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

The first place I checked - Google Maps - didn't show anything along I-65 for construction. I considered that suspicious, since I've never known an Interstate not to have any construction anywhere along it for such a long distance, and sure enough, I found this.

Although the article states lane closures won't be in effect the days you are traveling, it's still good to be aware of the environment.

There's a website in which you can connect to any state's DOT system. Bear in mind that some states are wonderful about updating the information, while others aren't.

A good resource to have, and spot-on about different state information. I checked a few - Connecticut: good with traffic cameras to boot
Massachusetts: okay with construction zones, not showing traffic cameras (that I know are there)
Kentucky: When I looked, no information about any construction at all

    Go figure.

Smile, you're on candid (traffic) camera!

If it's any help, I've found Oklahoma's site to be very lacking!

Thanks for the info. I tried Google too. Illinois and Tennessee were good about showing construction. Indiana and Kentucky not so much. I was concerned because I wasn't going to be able to leave until about 9 a.m. but my plans have changed so I can go much earlier (5 a.m.)

    Thanks again for the help!

That's a better choice anyway - to get out of Chicago before rush hour.

By the way, my mapping program suggests that I-57/I-24, although 30 miles longer than I-65, is about 20 minutes faster. It avoids the Indy and Louisville metros.

It's funny. My in-laws are from Effingham, IL and Russellville, KY so my wife's family trips as a child always went down I-57 to Effingham and then across to 41 in Kentucky to 68 to Russellville. She saw the route down I-65 and said, "That's not the right way."

There's a place I want to stop at in Louisville on the way. But I-24/I-57 sounds like a good idea for the return trip.

    Thanks!
