Default Toronto to Michigan, then circle Great Lakes

Hi, we're a couple, early 50's, who were thinking of circling the Great Lakes by car. We have an idea of seeing the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn, maybe catching a Tigers game, then working our way around Lake Michigan. Not sure yet what the route would be. Ideas include Springfield IL (Lincoln history), Wisconsin shoreline of Lake Michigan, Minnesota, maybe see another ball game, major or minor leagues. We might re-enter Canada thru Minnesota or take the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Any ideas along this route? We've done Mackinac before, also the Pictured Rocks boat cruise in Munising which we enjoyed.

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

How much time do you have for this trip?

You've got a lot of options already, so its going to be a bit tough to start narrowing them down for you until you've decided for yourself a bit more what the priorities will be.

I will say that Springfield is quite a long ways removed from the Great Lakes. There's a lot to see and do, but its several hours south of Chicago. Have you spend much time on the Canadian Side of the lakes? The Georgian Bay/Sudbury area has a lot to do, and traveling on the North side of Lake Superior is on my to do list.

For Baseball, Milwaukee would be the other major league park that would see like it is most likely to be along your way. Although potentially Minneapolis would work, or if you go to Springfield, you're not very far from St. Louis. The Midwest League has several teams in Southwest Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Wisconsin that would probably be your best bet for minor league ball.

And be sure to check out RTA's Map Center which has quite a few specific stop ideas that you can think about.

Thanks. I know of a lot of Midwest League teams, Beloit, Lansing, Fort Wayne etc. We're Canadian although we've never been on the Soo to Thunder Bay route. Milwaukee's on the radar for baseball, but yes, a week might be long to stray to southern Illinois and Missouri etc.
