    Default Southern Expedition.

    Hi people...Im back...

Thanks for all the advice on our trip 2 years ago..

    http://www.roadtripamerica.com/forum...-to-West-Coast

We managed to sneak in another trip last year by flight and rail (Chicago NY DC.) By the way, we absolutely loved Chicago.. What a great city!!

Anyway. We are off south this time. Flying into LA and making our way to Orlando for the kids to go nuts at the theme parks. Probably wont drive the whole way. Want to do New Orleans as well. We have about three weeks and probably doing 10 days in Orlando then flying back. So we have about 11 days to experience the south via roadtrip. What are the must see things and ANY advice welcome.

    Cheers

    Default Two 'Short' RoadTrips

Well, welcome back. As a first note, why not consider a loop RoadTrip from Dallas or Houston to Orlando and back. That way, you just have to by simple, relatively cheap, round trip flights to one of those Texas cities (both of which are hubs for major airlines), and you avoid a one-way drop off fee on the car. You could then have a relaxed four day or so drive each way, to Orlando and back, and see a bit of the South on the way,

Just some thoughts on a couple of routes across the south, one inland and one coastal. The inland route might hit some of the following : Vicksburg, Selma/Montgomery, FDR's Little White House, Andersonville, Okefenokee Swamp, St. Augustine, Daytona, Kennedy Space Center. While the coastal route might include Cedar Key, National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Gulf Islands National Seashore, New Orleans, Creole Nature Trail.

What a great idea! I will start looking at a loop trip. I want to go to Austin Texas and Dallas so a round trip may be a great idea.

Yep tickets are booked to LA. Looks like we will start in Dallas. 22 days... Down through Austin then on to New Orleans looks great. On to Orlando. Probably spend at least a week in Florida. As for the return trip, how much is there to do/see heading more inland (Alabama, Mississippi and advice??
