I am a new member and this forum has been a great help.
We are from Zurich, Switzerland. We are planning a road trip with a rental car for about 3 1/2 to 4 weeks long in July/August with our 8 year old daughter.
We are planning to start from San Francisco driving the coastal road - Astoria/Portland - Yellowstone(which route do you suggest, via Spokane or Boise?), passing Salt Lake City - Southern part of Utah. There we would like to visit Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon, Arches(we've been to these places 15 years ago, so possibly to omit), Mesa Verde and possibly Petrified Forest. Then to Vegas - LA. Drive Coastal Road from LA to San Fran but Sequoia and Yosemite are also on our list. So we would be doing a loop. Do you have a suggestion how to include these parks? We would like to end in San Francisco. We are planning to go to beaches and a couple of days in the amusement park for our daughter.
We would like to enjoy, not just hop from one place to another. Do you think we have enough time? If we don't have enough time, which parks/cities are a must to do and which ones are OK to eliminate? And does weather play a role in these parks? For instance, we are concerned that Arches would be too hot to go to in summer with a child. And would you recommend booking some B&Bs or hotels in advance? we are clearly a bit overwhelmed with all the planning... We are coming from Switzerland and would like to make the most of our first US road trip....
Best regards, Sue
